Library of Karakalpak Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan
The Fundamental Library of the Karakalpak Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan is the largest book depository of Russian and foreign literature, periodicals, handwritten and old printed books in the lower reaches of the Amu Darya. The scientific library began to be formed in 1931 in connection with the establishment of a scientific center in the autonomous republic - the Karakalpak Integrated Research Institute.
Since 1992, the scientific library has been transformed into the fundamental library of the Karakalpak Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The library's book collection consists of books in Karakalpak, Uzbek, Tatar, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Turkmen, Altai, Azerbaijani, Uighur, Arabic, Farsi, English, German, Polish, etc. languages.

The main book collection is more than 120,000 copies.
The book fund also includes a unique fund, the number of which is more than 7000.
There is also a magazine fund of 533 titles (a total of more than 30,000 copies) and a newspaper fund of 150 titles.
The exchange reserve fund is more than 20,000 copies.
The library has a collection of the famous scientist and archaeologist S.P.Tolstov - more than 5,000 books.

The pride of the fundamental library is the department of rare handwritten and old printed books. The manuscript fund has accumulated oriental manuscripts, lithographs, a 100-volume collection of Karakalpak folklore, expedition materials, microfilms, rare books, field records of researchers and national heritage - dastans written from the mouth of the Karakalpak people, folk tales, riddles, proverbs and sayings; previously unpublished, unpublished materials on archeology, history, linguistics, literary studies and natural sciences, dissertations, abstracts, encyclopedias.
The manuscript collection also contains books in Arabic, Turkish, Farsi, Uzbek and Karakalpak languages, which contain classical works of Oriental literature, treatises on grammar, mathematics, philosophy, medicine and other branches of science. In total, the manuscript collection has accumulated more than 7,000 copies.
