The Karakalpak Scientific Research Institute of Natural Sciences was established in 2012 on the basis of the association of the Integrated Institute of Natural Sciences, the Institute of Bioecology and the Institute of Socio-Economic Problems of the Aral Sea Region of the Karakalpak Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The main directions of the Institute's scientific research are the search and rational use of natural, energy, mineral, and plant resources of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the development of the problem of preserving biological diversity, the integrity of the region's ecosystems and criteria for assessing their condition, the problems of stabilizing the state and protecting the environment, improving the living conditions of the region's population, modeling environmental processes, and the study of social- economic processes.
As a result of the restructuring and optimization, the Institute has established the following research units:
Laboratory of Animal Ecology;
Laboratory of Plant Ecology;
Laboratory of Solid State Physics;
Laboratory of Chemistry;
Laboratory of Geology;
Laboratory for modeling socio-economic processes;
Laboratory for modeling Environmental Processes;
The Botanical Garden.
Currently, the Institute carries out work within the framework of 3 fundamental research projects, 7 applied research and 3 innovative projects.
